The Murders is the Rue Morgue is another of Lugosi's classics. I feel that this film is often overlooked, but it shouldn't be. Lugosi turns in a masterful performance (as always) as Dr. Mirakle, he has a sideshow with a gorilla that he tries to show his patrons that is as smart as humans. At the same time he is checking out the audience for a "prospective bride" for the gorilla. He lures unsuspecting women into his lab and injects them with gorilla blood to see if they are compatible. They never are and the Dr. disposes the bodies through a secret trap door. The Dr. is found out and is destroyed. The movie is based on the Edgar Allen Poe story of the same name.(rather loosely)
